Jessica McEllis is een succesvolle actrice, die in het dorpje Homestead verblijft om er een film op te nemen. Vince Hawkins, haar ex-vriend en tegenspeler, is ook in het dorpje aanwezig. Om er zeker van te zijn dat het dorpje een geschikte locatie is om te filmen, richt zij zich tot Matt Larson, de burgemeester. Hij is tevens de eigenaar van het lokale pension. Jessica verblijft er en kan het goed vinden met Sophie, het dochtertje van Matt. Jessica doet de ontdekking dat de vrouw van Matt vroegtijdig gestorven is en dat Matt Sophie alleen opvoedt. Er ontstaat een speciale band tussen Jessica en Sophie. Tot grote ergernis van Vince ziet Matt Jessica ook wel zitten.
